Nostalgia
Today I was a little self-indulgent. I dug out a DVD of Bruce and the E Street Band, recorded at Hammersmith Odeon in November 1975, and played it on my 27″ iMac, with the sound through Bose headphones. Was it good? Was it ever.

Oh happy days. I could reminisce about Bruce until the proverbial cows come home. First saw him on the ‘Darkness’ tour and have been loyal ever since, even forgiving him the occasional really dodgy album. Quite how it’s going to be without the Big Man is something I don’t want to contemplate…
You will be able to find out in May, June or July should you choose; he’s touring Europe. I’m looking at Barcelona in May. Check out his web page. While you’re there take a look at some clearly pirated video of Bruce jamming with a fat old geezer who used to be Bob Seger.
Manchester’s closest to me, and I plan to be there with bells on. That’s just some fat old bloke pretending he was once Bob Seger. Surely… I know it comes to us all, but sometimes it just smacks you in the face.
Nah, Bob will always be Bob. He is very close to me, although he will never know it. The day that Irene, my first wife, died, my daughter and I came home from the hospital, afterwards. We were both stunned, and the house was more silent than it had ever been, so I picked out a CD and chose a song. It was ‘We’ve got tonight’. Five years later, when Eileen and I were married, I asked the boys who played at our evening gig to use it to start their gig. I felt I had to rehabilitate it, and set it in a new context. Very few people knew that; now everyone does.
That’s a lovely way to connect the women in your life, and I like the thought that you ‘rehabilitated’ it in that way, since it is a spectacular song. That’s one hell of a touching tale, thanks for that.
big fan of the Boss. Unfortunately, have never seen him and the E Street Band live…. with a buggered up left knee & right ankle I can’t do stadium shows…sigh :(.
Have the Live in NYC, Barcelona and Hyde Park DVD’s – all excellent
I saw them in St James’s Park, Newcastle, 1985. Thing about Bruce is, he’s not the best singer in the world, but nobody else can hold a stadium audience like he can.
