Off my shoe

How the hell do you make me feel sorry for Andy Gray? I’d thought it impossible, but it wasn’t. Here’s how you do it.

You’re Barney Francis, managing director of Sky Sports, you dig out a five second piece of video in which Gray throws a silly aside to a female colleague who either didn’t hear it, ignored it, or didn’t take offence, then you describe it as ‘new evidence’ when it’s been sitting there for over a month and you use it as an excuse for canning a guy who’s been the face of your football coverage for  twenty years, and who happens to be past his sell-by date. I won’t miss Andy, but Barney Francis . . . what a shit!

As far as I’m concerned, Andy Gray has always been a big headed, arrogant, know it all and a male chauvinist. He had no right making those comments and with or without further video footage Barney Francis had every right to fire him. We have to much of his kind fronting programmes thinking they are above condemnation.
Good for you Barney Francis your decision was the right one.

    Sorry Quintin.

I agree with all your observations re fat Andy, a crap analyst these days, plus he’s a bluenose to boot. But he’s been set up, and I don’t believe a word the shit Francis says. Gray was warned as to his future conduct, yet he’s been sacked over something that happened a month ago, in a room full of people, something that the lady involved didn’t even notice far less complain about. No, no, no, no, no. What I have noticed though is that Andy has been increasingly out of touch with Sky’s flashy new technology this season. I believe the shit Francis has been looking for an excuse to terminate his contract on the cheap and has seized on this. Sky may not be wholly owned by Newscorp, but it is dominated by that organisation, the one that based its phenomenal growth in the 70s on the degradation of women, some as young as 16, on Page Three of its flagship, the Sun. Now the same organisation is sacking a bloke for behaving like a Sun reader? Sorry, May, it gives me the dry boak.
