This is awful stuff, but I’m concerned that the lady making the allegations ‘waived her anonymity’ to tell her story to ITV. Why would she have to do that? Her claims would have been no less serious even if her name had been kept out of it.

I’m even more concerned to read that former Sunday Express and Daily Star editor Brian Hitchen claimed he knew Jimmy Savile abused under-age girls for the past 45 years. So why did we never hear about this before?
He says: “In those days newspapers did not write ‘nasty’ stories about celebrities unless the famous had been handsomely paid for their often fairly tame revelations.
“The second reason is because Britain’s libel laws too often help make those like Savile untouchable. The public knew him as a selfless man who raised millions of pounds for Stoke Mandeville Hospital in Buckinghamshire. Perhaps they should have wondered why he waited so long for a knighthood.”
What a load of rubbish. How I wonder do the people who did benefit from all his help and met him at Stoke Mandeville and Jimmy’s in Leeds now feel about the fact that young women were ‘sacrificed’ because he was untouchable? And how many mums and dads are wondering what he might have been doing to their kids?
I am even more disgusted by those who covered up the whole sordid business than I am by Savile himself.
