Kick it out

I’m a vociferous Scottish Nationalist, and proud of it. However I am also a senior (in age) member of a multi-racial extended family. Discrimination of any sort . . . other than in favour of good over evil . . . is anathema to me. Our skin tone is an accident of birth. So also, to an extent is our faith, but we can do something about that in later life if we choose. We all belong to the same species; we can be good people or bad people, but we’re all the same under the skin.

Thus when I read, as I have lately, of something in England called the Society of Black Lawyers, my instant reaction is that any body that defines its membership by the colour of their skin is fundamentally wrong. We’ll never create One Nation by highlighting the prejudices that militate against it.

Amen to that, QJ. Highlighting the fact that you’re black, white, Muslim, Christian – it immediately sets you apart, segregates you. It would be nice to believe that one day we’ll all just – you know, get along.

Don’t think that will happen any time soon Alison. Religion is inflicted upon the new born by well meaning parents…Unless like me you prefer to let them choose their own when they have knowledge and understanding. We can raise kind and considerate children, it means that we have to invest in them, something that todays generation think should be done by schools. Education starts at home, you are the mirror of your family and upbringing. The colour of somebodies skin is of no importance, it’s what is in their heart that counts, if they have been bought up with hatred against ” other religions” then there is little hope of any of them “getting along”

Officially, my religion is Jedi. I declared it at successive UK censuses, because you could. According to the 2001 census there are more Jedi in England and Wales than there are Sikhs, Buddhists or Jews.
