Brand X
Like many people of my generation who’ve actually heard of Russell Brand (probably a minority) I’ve always considered him to be an irrelevance, a complete prat. Until now.
In fact, Russell is a demagogue in disguise; like many of that breed, there is a core of sense in some of his outpourings, and for me that makes him dangerous
Entirely agree, he is a complete prat spouting platitudes; we can all do that if we choose to. What is sad and dangerous is that, at that level, lots of people listen and believe. There’s nothing there that we don’t already know; is there any kind of credible solution so far? Don’t think so, not yet anyway. Marine Le Pen is doing the same thing here in France and tragically we may soon be governed by the National Front! They vote because they’re told to, a*******s like RB don’t because they choose not, encourage others not to and then complain about the result.
Russell Brand does have the answer. He is the new Jesus – he has the hair and everything – and he will lead Occupy, and us, the people, to… somewhere.
I have had the strange fortune to speak with a few Occupy supporters. They are consistent and speak with one voice when they declare that they haven’t got a clue. The whole recurring history of revolutions, peaceful and otherwise, has just passed them by.
It seems incredible that out of all of those bright people – and a lot of them are very well educated – after several years they still haven’t managed to come up with a better campaign policy than: ‘Moan like teenagers; smash stuff up; try to get arrested; try to get on TV.’
Occupy, and those who support them, are no more sincere than those they would criticise. If they were serious, then they really would be a danger. I am intrigued to see what they evolve into though. Plenty of media outlets support them, for the most part for the purposes of their own propaganda. They do have a few stars. I watched one the other night on some random channel. The editor of Occupy.com was calmly frantic about the death of the journalist Michael Hastings, who died in a car crash. Occupy are convinced the CIA hacked into Hastings’ Mercedes and caused it to burst into flames and hit a tree.
If that’s true, the CIA may want to alter their mode of attack from remote controlled airplanes to remote controlled cars.
Actually, scratch that; they’d probably mistake a family people carrier for a Toyota Hilux.
