Heroes
Having been off the reservation for a week or so, the first thing I have to do on return is to thank a few people: specifically, Dr Agnes Durie of Gullane Medical Practice, Mr David Lewis, consultant vascular surgeon, Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, and his theatre team, and the staff of Wards 105 and 118, RIE, for the unsurpassable care that all of them lavished on my lovely wife, and most of all for giving her back to me.
You are all special.

Hello
So very glad to hear that all went well
Gillian
and for taking care of my mate , I thank you all
Wondered where you were. Very glad to hear that you and yours are OK – you were missed. Make sure she takes everything easy while she recuperates. I’m certain that you are well up to caring for her. I take it you are in Scotland. It is mighty hot here in Spain – 35 today in Javea, too much for recovery, still, lots of Spanish food is now available in UK supermarkets to tempt a patient’s palate. Best wishes to ;you both.
I started reading one of your books and am dismayed to find a comment on American politicians that a character admires. I don’t read crime fiction for political endorsements. I read it to get way from reality. Why a Scottish detective has to make such a comment is beyond me. It does nothing to further the story. It is simply you expressing your personal political bias into your story. It is your book. However it is my choice to skip the rest of the book and all your others.
As blogmeister it would have taken one touch for me to trash your comment, but I didn’t, because you’re entitled to your view, even though you didn’t see fit to put your name to it. As it happens, you have no idea of my political opinions, as I rarely allow them to spill over into my work. When I do it’s only in matters domestic, and it’s bloody obvious. It would have helped me respond more fully if you’d been more specific, but generally it’s naive to assume too much in reading a piece of fiction. Because that’s all it is: I make it up. If I have a character who leans in a certain way, and I choose to broaden him (or her) by giving him attitudes and opinions, there is no reason in the world to attribute them to me. So you make your choice, K. I won’t miss you. Since you haven’t told me who you are, how could I?
What a display of crass lack of tact and stupidity on the part of K. The subject here is nothing to do with books. Best wishes for a swift and full recovery. Go well, you and yours.
Thanks, Fergus.
Some readers you can well do without. K probably thinks that Dr. Who is a documentary.
My best wishes to you both.
Well every one takes what they can from books. Personally I love Skinner he reminds so much of my Dad, ( if he was about six inches shorter), and having read some of your blogs I suspect you have some of his characteristics. At the moment I am spitting mad because I don’t have a vote living as I do in England, however I have five sisters and their families in the Edinburgh area so let’s hope they do the right thing.
According to my English in laws, Yes, I married a foreigner, we Scots have ourselves to blame for the mess the country is in, since the last government was ruled by Scots and the English had little say in the matter.
K’s avatar seems very appropriate “shut the …k up?” I assumed they were randomly selected but it looks as though you allocate them.
Oh boy! If that is the case I had better take the curlers out of my hair! On another subject, some time ago we discussed the merits of Pescado wine, both white and rose. Having been introduced to it by a friend, may I bring to your attention Alberino. It is not expensive, but it is lovely. A variety of depths, but all good. Salude!
Thanks, but you’re a few years too late.
