Ads I truly hate

Sometimes a TV ad is so bad that it makes you loathe the product, instinctively.

There is one such on the box at the moment, for a very dodgy home-selling website. It features two unpresentable guys pitching a very bad script, and offering an ill-defined proposition. It’s called Purple Bricks: easy to remember, rhymes with Pricks.

Perfect name for a spoonerism in my view!

Very few brands seem to get it right anymore. I look back with fondness and even respect at the “Hamlet, the mild cigar” ads – I don’t like cigars, they make me go green but Ioved the product instinctively. VW did it very well too a while back. You’re quite right though, most ads put you off, just like cold calls, on principle.
