Shambles
I went to Edinburgh today. I had two meetings, so I took my car, to see if it was as bad as I had heard.
It wasn’t. It was much, much worse.
I can only hope that they let the lunatics take over the asylum, for they have to do a better job than the councillors.
Haven’t been back to Edinburgh for a few years now but, the last time it was full-on tram-works.Cars not an option so we opted for a taxi to get from the Dean Village up to the High Street (we could have walked but there were young children involved). Anyway, a wonderful cabbie who said “Listen, there are three different ways of getting there, it all depends on the roadworks and you can choose. I don’t want to get shouted at if we get stuck,” took us there in about 15 minutes. Luck was on our side and it was a nightmare. Cars do not work in cities at all. Our biggest town, Perpignan, decided to make all the centre pedestrian (very environmental you might think) and the result is that the centre is deserted, all the shops have closed and moved out to horrible shopping malls on the outskirts. If you’re coming in from the country, you need to be able to park, otherwise you don’t come in at all. That’s game over. Perpignan is a desert, also very stupid, having built a huge new high-speed train station before realising that the track for the new high-speed rail link doesn’t go to Perpignan at all. Wonderful innit?
